Freddy Krueger Halloween Costume Breakdown – What did Freddy Krueger wear and how do you dress like him?

When it comes to iconic horror costumes, Freddy Krueger’s is one of the greatest. It consists of a distressed fedora-style hat (a brown fedora), a red and green striped jumper, black trousers, and black trainers. To complete the outfit, Freddy has a ‘razor claw’ glove that features 4 knife blades, one on each finger. This can be used to terrify attendees at your Halloween party. LOL!

Of course, you can’t go out without the realistic burned skin appearance. You can buy the fearsome Freddy Kruger mask on Amazon here.

Who is Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street?

Freddy Krueger was the evil child killer from the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Directed by horror director, Wes Craven, and Freddy Krueger was played by the iconic horror specialist, Robert Englund.

The first Nightmare on Elm Street film starred Johnny Depp, and was so successful it set up a movie franchise that would span over 26 years.

Freddy was a pedophile child killer in the Nightmare on Elm Street films. He was going to get away with his crimes on a technicality so the parents of the murdered children cornered him and burned him alive in a gas explosion in the boiler room where he has committed the crimes.

Freddy then comes back as a ‘Dream Demon’ to kill more teenagers in their sleep.

Why was Freddy’s jumper red and green stripes?

Director Wes Craven read somewhere that those coloured were the most difficult to see in the dark, so he incorporated them into the costume to add more suspense to the creepy night scenes.

Is Freddy Krueger’s burned face a mask?

No. It was the result of a boiler room explosion and his real-life death at the hands of his victim’s parents.

What is Freddy Krueger’s hat called?

Freddy wears a Fedora which is distressed and brown in colour.

What is Freddy’s glove called?

As if Freddy’s appearance wasn’t scary enough, Wes Craven added the final piece of the jigsaw to make this ‘dream demon’ outfit even more terrifying. The glove was called the ‘razor claw’ and was Krueger’s answer to Leatherface’s chainsaw (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Jason Voorhee’s Axe (Friday 13th), and Michael Myers’ butchers knife (Halloween).

The razor craw was used to frighten, torture, and gut Freddy’s victims.
