Walter Sobchak Costume Breakdown:
The Walter Sobchak costume is a typical outfit for a movie army veteran. Still living in the past, Walter is dressed, prepped and ready for action……even in the bowling alley. This costume is pretty iconic due to the Big Lebowski’s popularity over the years. (Can you believe it’s over 25 years old?)
To finished, we have Sobchak costume accessories. A digital military watch for precision accuracy (can’t be late for the bowling match!), yellow tinted aviator-style glasses, and a fake costume gun (although Walter’s is 100% real).
So there you have it. Your DIY Walter Sobchak costume for your next Halloween party, batchelor party, or themed birthday get-together.

Who is Walter Sobchak from the Big Lebowski?
The Big Lebowski is a classic cult movie movie released in 1998. Written and directed by the Coen Brothers, the plot involves mistaken identity where debt collecters accuse Jeff Lebowski (played by Jeff Bridges) of owing them money, but don’t realise he’s not the right Lebowski. He’s ‘The Dude’.
After the debt collectors threaten and tie up ‘The Dude’, pissing over his treasured rug, he seeks compensation from the real Jeffrey Lebowski who the debt collectors are actually after. However, he gets talked into a mission to help save Lebowski’s wife, who has been kidnapped by the debt collectors. And the hilarious story starts.
Walter Sobchak is The Dude’s best buddy and bowling partner. An ex-Vietnam veteran, he now run a security company which he set up during his time in the core in Vietnam. He’s now a gun-loving, individual who’s temper gets the better of him in almost every situation. Probably suffering from some sort of PTSD, he’s paranoid, angry and always thinks somebody is after him and danger is just around the corner.
Walter loves bowling, Judaism, and guns. He’ll bring a gun to the alley but he won’t bowl on Friday night. That’s Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest.
His anger is close to boiling over at all times. He has a volatile personality that is shown when an opponent steps over the line during a bowling match and he refuses to award the points. He then pulls his gun and screams “Am I the only one here who gives a shit about the rules?!” (A totally hilarious scene).
Walter Sobchak was based on a buddy of the Coen brothers. Famous writer and director John Milnius (who wrote Conan the Barbarian) was a right wing gun-nut from Hollywood who tried to volunteer during Vietnam War but was rejected by the Marine Corps for medical reasons. John Goodman plays the character so hilariously-well and turns Sobchak into am iconic movie figure that people now want to dress like at parties.
